The lessons God taught me today and that I learnt today are:

With every grief comes with relief. Truly with every grief comes relief.

There may be wisdom and goodness behind things tt appear bad to you.

If this be a test I hope I pass.

Be patient.

Bad things happen as an invitation to be closer to God. InshaAllah.

And now tt my laptop is not with me, let me learn to live without it for a while. It is something material and there are many computers I can use in school. & I still have a computer and an iPhone while many still don't.

In the long run, it is not important.

It has brought me goodness and bad.

&

I need to find out abt tt insurance cover.

This is worse than when I lost my library book ages ago.

It was a good day today.
& the house has been swept clean.
& essay plans are more concrete
& i woke up early relative to last week... what happened last week?
& only the rain and the jam made me 15mins late. I should have taken the taxi from Dover
& i feel the mojo coming back.
& there was a nice balance of laughter and serious talk
& I had good food.
& God told me, through the Quran,
"Indeed, We sent down to you the Book for the people in truth. So whoever is guided - it is for [the benefit of] his soul; and whoever goes astray only goes astray to its detriment. And you are not a manager over them." Surah Az-Zumar, Ayat 41 [ 39: 41 ]

& this was a great comfort and reminder to me. I find myself reading only once or twice a month...

Syukran ya Allah.. & hope to be consistent and improve. there are times where it's up and time where your iman's down. haish.

I'm scared. Did I make the right decision? I don't know where this is leading me....

After coming back from one whole night of cycling. And being sent to the venue and back by my dear aunt.

The night was supposed to be about Tawbah & Muhasabah. I think they could have told us the objective of the game and welcomed us earlier. It was messy. I didn't know what to do when we came besides waiting around.

Ya W said all those things and realising made me cry. & I can't help wanting to change. But I can only change certain parts. Those bad habits. Those sleeping times. I can't help, also, wanting to be that little girl again where the mother will keep looking out for her. Now the only thing, it seems, that the mother looks out for is 1. if there is a potential husband for me through my school days and 2. if she's taking care of the housework and Ilhan well. She won't ask me about my day other than that unless I tell her. She likes me to tell her. I like to talk to her. But sometimes, if you see if there's really something bothering me, it'd be good to ask me what's on my mind. Just saying.

Coming home to this mess, feeling like the house can't really function without me, this sucky feeling still grows. I don't know if it's a test for the family that I want to move out next Academic year. It's my test for them to make them appreciate me. And for the younger one to help more. Not just be sucked into the technological vortex.

Ilhan is my ultimate test. He is something that I asked Allah fervently for and I got it. I'm thankful really really.

But there are those days where he pees on my bed. Or her loses the library book that I borrowed for him and I have to clean up after his mess. And I break down. I break down cos I can't stand it. I can't stand the responsibility of managing this four year bunch of energy when I can't even manage myself. And I can't manage myself and I have to manage him. I can't allow him to watch too many television shows because it's bad but at the same time I can't finish my work to entertain him by reading books. And yes the sole responsibility lies on my mother but after Sylvia Plath and by intuition, I can't not help out. It's ok if it's physically tiring but it's not just. It's emotionally and mentally draining too. It goes to show that I need to manage myself first before managing him but I feel so helpless. I can't do it. Someone tell me how to do it. Please. God please help me..

I just know, that despite how I treat others well, and all my friends with love, even when they are bawling their eyes out over something stupid, and actually wasting my time going over something stupid and transient, talking abt the same thing over and over again, I just know that sometimes, they can't directly tell me that they are happy for me, for my situation. That they say that 3 syllable acronym like I am an alien, like I am so different. Say it. USP. That, they think I'm too beyond them, so different. That besides just being coincidentally there, just because I happened to be, and because I always unconditionally love some people like that, they they can't do the same for me. Because they are too wallowed up in self-pity and lost in the world that they are in, that they think that I am too self-absorbed. That when I strive to make the needs of those who really need it better, that's when my efforts are lost. That's the time when you ask yourself why you were so dilligent and made something nice for a lost cause. That even if you went away for a semester without telling them, these people wouldn't ask. Because they wouldn't notice. Because your online presence is there and that extent of existence is just enough.

On the other hand, I failed to make the link stronger, between the extent of the domestic labour making up the GDP of these countries and the power that they have over the structural power. Haiz. I hope it somehow got conveyed through.

I'm slowly beginning to get the hang of how NUS wants their essays to be like, especially with the help of SEA dpt and Writing & Critical Thinking module. Now if I will be majoring in CNM, which I have identified as my latent strength, will I still be writing essays like that? No. I'll be doing numerous group work. Haiz.... that's another skill to master. Am I shooting my academic health in the head with this fickleness? haiz...

I brought Ilhan to the pasar malam. Just to show him one feature of Singapore life that I really love. But it's changed. Pasar malams used to have games that you could win prizes if you fished the right frog off it's lily pad. And I think the food was more varied. But I loved it when Bapak brought me to the pasar malam. But my parents are older now for Ilhan. So I take over that role of bringing him around. I told him that we can't buy anything because I don't want to encourage waste. But still I bought 2 for $1 sticker booklet for him. Ben 10 and Power Rangers. And Wadeh for Mak.

He combed through every item at the pasar malam voraciously, eyes consuming everything in wonder. I was happy that he found delight in all these cheap plastic trinkets produced in China. Fire engines, bubble guns, real guns, knives, spongebob bags, brooms, cooking sets, cleaning sets. Jumping from one item to another. Holding tightly to his hand and him holding on to mine. Clinging so I won't lose him wandering off somewhere.

"Waa Kakak! Tengok ni! Tengok ni!"
"Ye, Ilhan. Ilhan tengok ni pulak"

And then we go home. We walked one round around our neighbourhood, covering the whole stretch of the pasar malam.

When we reached home, Mak already cleaned up the mess he made with his toys. When we reached home, he messes it up again. It's really tiring. Mentally and emotionally. It's really comforting to come home to a nice neat house. But it's always impossible with Ilhan around. It's tiring to be strict with him to clean it up. He will say,"Kakak tolong Ilhan la! Ilhan tak tahu." So it's always a battle to educate him and to just clean it up on your own and letting him off.

When I reached home, I just let him go because I cannot stand his whining and messing around and excuses.

I let him go and pass him to my mum.

I'm loyal like that.

GD is really talented.
TOP and his signature stiff move.
Daesung looks really good with that haircut.
Seung Ri has really grown.
Taeyang is still the same, the way he moves. I find that he gets a bit full of himself when on the stage. But then again, that's his performative self.

Can never get sick of them. They keep producing good stuff.

And I'll be loyal like that.

Dear God,

Help me to always remember you and how to behave.

Ameen.

Loneliness should be kicked away by reaching out for a friend.
That's what friends are for.

Work on the relationship with the people who matter.
The people who matter will stay no matter.
Even if they disappear for a while.
They will come when you need them the most.
& God knows best.

Reach out to the world and those who can will reach out back to you.
Tell people that you need them.
Tell them you need them and they will help you.

Never forget this.
If you keep it all inside, how will people know?
They will just know something is wrong but now what.

Reach out.

I have never been brilliant. Only hardworking. And the keep-going-at-it mindset.

Ah well.

Need to keep working on this?

You hold me without touch.
You keep me without chains.
I never wanted anything so much than to drown in your love and not feel your rain.

Set me free, leave me be. I don't want to fall another moment into your gravity.
Here I am and I stand so tall, just the way I'm supposed to be.
But you're on to me and all over me.

You loved me 'cause I'm fragile.
When I thought that I was strong.
But you touch me for a little while and all my fragile strength is gone.

I live here on my knees as I try to make you see that you're everything I think I need here on the ground.
But you're neither friend nor foe though I can't seem to let you go.
The one thing that I still know is that you're keeping me down.

It suddenly washed over her: why she immersed herself in another world of sounds. A language she didn't understand. Why she enveloped herself in tunes and beats and rhythms. She didn't want to understand. She didn't want to hear in reality, outside her bodily outline, the reverberations of her internal. She didn't want to give a voice to the emotions she was trying to cover up.

Thank you Korean.
I'm brave enough to listen to English now.
Kind of miss listening to words I can understand.

No, you must understand. She never hated English songs. :)

I would like to remember today's ride home. Because I bumped into Ivan on the way home. The first time I met this character, he was introduced to the freshies as the President of Arts Club. He was always there for Arts Camp guiding the freshies. He become an Abang figure to us. He's short and had a tiny braid. The next time I saw him, was in Arabic 1 class. He struggled with the words. I sat beside him sometimes and helped him with the words. Sometimes he didn't do his homework. Sometimes I didn't do them too. Arabic is very heavy even though it's easy. He always wears skinnies in many colours.

I always see him around in school and he always says Hi to me and smiles at me even though I'm very sure that he doesn't know my name.

The next time I saw him was after the Muslim Perspective of Success talk for Islamic AWareness Week 2011. I was surprised to see him. So I chatted with him during break talking about school and juggling schoolwork with organising something. After a while I told him I needed to pray Maghrib and I'll talk to him later. And he said, "Yeah, I need to pray too". It took all my grace and composure to prevent my jaw from hitting the floor. Yes I coolly turned away to walk up to take my ablution and then to the AS6 Musollah.

After prayers, I asked Aisyah and Hamzah about Ivan and they said he converted a few months ago. Wow. MashaAllah.

So just now I had the blessing to bump into him at the bus stop and we boarded 95. He was headed to Masjid Kassim to take a fardhu ain class. Honestly what is that? I asked him if he went to Darul Arqam and he said yes but he started by taking an Adaab class at Masjid Kassim and it started from there. He began to show an interest in Islam from there. I think it's totally courageous and amazing. MasyaAllah. I take a lot of granted about my life, being a born Muslim.

Also, being a senior, Ivan advised me a lot on what to look out for in choosing my major: the staff at the department; how I feel about the staff- if I can be close to them, if I can feel like I belong to the community; the internship opportunities; the activities they do for the welfare of the student. He also advised me on juggling schoolwork with organising events, even though he admits to not juggling well. He thinks that it's tough in NUS to do well in both. I think so too. It's really tough focusing on seeing through an event with doing your readings and essays well. It's a superhuman feat. He is very humble and he tries to help me.

Well of course he doesn't know my name. He only knows my face. But at least he knows who I am. And I know who he is. And I totally respect him since the house head intro-ed him to us freshies. And I'm sure, he is one person who Allah sent my way to advise me regarding school stuff. Especially on a day where I was demoralised, getting a B- for Paper 1 for Writing Module. My target is B+ for this. I need to get it. InshaALlah. Please pray for me, if you are reading this.

I am Nur Safiah. :)

the older you get
the sadder it gets
the more you seek
the truth
the more you seek
how to behave

the original guidelines
on how to live
the only guideline
on how to live

do you know that your soul lives eternally?
it does.
it does.

now what shall you do about that?

12:48 AM

at moments like this,
I feel lonely

that feeling that abandons.

when you think it's okay to do a 100m sprint,
you just want to have a marathon with people all around you.
or at least a relay.

i feel so small and weak.

or is this just PMS?

12:41 AM

it's the feeling of wanting to see a face which brings you peace.
I don't know which face it is.
I don't care which face it is.
just a face that is the net to the butterflies in my stomach.
a face that is the arms to my shaking self.

it's after you've learnt about how valuable I am
that I want to protect myself
it's after I've learnt about how fragile I am
I try to stop that presence from shaking my frame

shaking my frame
turning my insides out
all the while muttering in poignant silence
asking help from God
to stop from feeling that way
there's no reason for this
it's just nature
it's just because you were created as a woman
you don't even want to feel that way.

I need a cave.
away
away
