Days With My Father
12:12 AM Sunday, March 29, 2009

Days With My Father is terribly touching. Simple to read, delivering the message of a father-child relationship effectively through powerful pictures.

Made me ponder:

Which is worse? The loss of a long term memory or the loss of a short term one? Or which one is better?

Of course, we all hope that we and the ones we love would never be victims of a fate like that. But things always happen for a reason.

I watched this alone because the referrer said she was moved to tears. And so was I when I read. I cry ugly-ly. Do I cry because the story is sad? Or do I cry because I'm scared that I might never get to know my father as well as the author got to know his father?

(: haha.
and I commented.

Image: Letters to a Young Poet: Rainer Maria Rilke

I remember seeing this title before, reading about this book but not knowing the story. This very faint faint memory which I can't even hold on to and attempt to put some form into it. I want to read this book. And all of Rainer Maria Rilke's books. You know, Gossip Girl is quite educational. Hohos. Intellectually I mean.

Leo Gursky is just about surviving, tapping his radiator each evening to let his upstairs neighbour know he's still alive. But life wasn't always like this: sixty years ago, in the Polish village where he was born, Leo fell in love and wrote a book. And though Leo doesn't know it, that book survived, inspiring fabulous circumstances, even love.

I want to read this soon.

“I know most people say that people aren’t really friends forever, and that people change… and I know that is true. Really, I do. But, for as long as we possibly can, let’s try to prove that theory wrong, ok? I can’t imagine not ever being able to pick up the phone and talk to you. You keep me sane, you remind me that no matter what’s changed, there are some things that remain… and those things are what I cherish.”— Hollie Seals

Good Morning Starshine! The Earth Says Hello...
8:38 AM

I didn't sleep after Subuh just now. Even though I slept at 1am. Today's Mak's birthday. Yesterday was Ayah War's and on 17th was Sabrina's. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! I cleaned most of the house today for her. And my brother went to school for camp. Ilhan is still sleeeping.

I think I shall take a nap. I'm not really a morning person but only cause I always sleep late. But I try. Morning's the best to be alive because most people are being rocked awake. Days are longer when you wake up early. You can do more when you wake up early. More things for yourself. When it's not school, of course. More things that you love doing... hmmm...Yiruma's music is playing on my playlist. Love it. HOHOs..

After nap, shall study Lit and Geog. GOSHHHH. 3 more days... and I don't even feel like I had a holiday.

BAHH.

The Lost Can Get Lost Together
12:35 AM

Over the course of the average lifetime you meet a lot of people. Some of them stick with you through thick and thin. Some weave their way through your life and disappear forever. But once in a while someone comes along who earns a permanent place in your heart.

“For what it’s worth, it’s never too late, or in my case too early, to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit… start whenever you want… you can change or stay the same. There are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. I hope you see things that stop you. I hope you feel things that you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life that you’re proud of and if you find that you’re not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.”
- The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

If we are to know the reasons behind everything.. Life will lost its magic moments..It’s the ambiguous beauty that makes life worth living..

alanajoy: Now this is an awesome photo. agreed.

There’s a kind of longing that is so much that it physically hurts, and I don’t know if it’s all right to express this longing by words or saying it to the person you miss, but I do know that it exists.

I try hard to be in control. Sometimes I win. Sometimes I lose.

Hehe. I am grateful for my new Laptop! WHOOO HOOO. Finally. Should have just listened to my own instincts and followed through with my first choice. But was really touched by cousin's concern when he didn't want me to buy a bad laptop. He bought an Acer and I got a Fujitsu L1010. Went to IT show and SP Notebook show. IT Show is very tiring. Thank you Sean for helping me choose the right notebook. Still, a women's instinct is so powerful. HEHE. I am very grateful for my nice nice cousin.

MONDAY: Went to SP Notebook Show with my cousin, uncle and my brother. Never went out with them before. Found out that my uncle is kiasu in a good way. HAHA. Thick skin in a way that he GETS THINGS. wahhhh. Gets free things. After that, he blanja-ed us at pizza hut and got away with a student meal. Why? Cos he's a NIE student. HOHOHO. Even though he looks middle-aged. Or maybe cos the outlet at Siglap has no customers so they were willing to give in. HOHO. And we had to finish 7 soups cos we ordered a single student meal and my uncle ordered a group pizza meal. HOHOS. Dang full. My uncle is a funny guy. And Imran gave us a mini-tour around Singapore Poly, which was the only poly I considered to go to. Because they were very nice to me. But it reminded me of how I was NOT ready for a tertiary life. HOHO.

TUESDAY: Family and some of the extended families went to JB and I stayed at home. Cos I wanted to study. But MOE called me to come down and give me the form so that I could get my $200 allowance which I still haven't gotten yet. Felt so pissed. Wanted to be stuck at home. Called Jannah and she offered to teman me to Orchard. She wanted to leave her house too. Then we studied at McCafe and even though we were sitting nearest to the speakers, it was allright cos the music was classy. HOHO. Managed to study Econs.

WEDNESDAY: Guitar from 8-12. Planned to wake earlier and jog around track at school but woke up late. Guitar prac was intensiiiive. And I still haven't memorised Coup De Cour. Gosh. 3/4 there though. Went home and slept a lot because the weather is very very very dry and hot.

THURSDAY: Went to eat at Eighteen Chefs with Sean. Then, asked all the questions that my tutorial teacher answered but I just couldn't get her answers. You know sometimes when people answer correctly but in a wrong way for you? Yup that's how. Must be my too...left-y brain. HOHOS. Found out that Shahini's going to New Zealand for three weeks and is going to miss me and Sade's eighteenth birthday... I hate it that we don't have enough time for each other and sometimes I feel like giving up but because I love them so much, I want to see them.

FRIDAY: is tomorrow. HOHOHOHOHOHO. Which leaves me Tomorrow, Saturday and Sunday to revise for Lit, the rest of Econs, Geog and the rest of Maths. WAHAHA. Dizzy. One week passes so fast. *POUTS*

Anyway, since downloading time is fast, am appreciating VIMEO cos of it's HD quality. And many many short films which I LOIIIKE. HOHO. Feel like watching Gossip Girl... no no... must abstain till when I can waste time away. HEHE.

I think the first one is reaaaallly nice. And the second one is reaaaally bizarrely dreamy and weird and wonderful.

Loneliness in a crowd is a hard thing. Sometimes you are alone in your feelings. Other people don’t understand the path you’ve chosen. It’s inevitable when you follow your heart. There’s is a feeling with me that I rely on others when I am lonely, but I don’t allow myself the luxury. I make myself sit it out, I don’t call anyone. I just get the feeling that when I meet up with people to take away my loneliness I am searching for something in the wrong place. Like someone else is going to give me answers, when they can’t. The answers lie within myself. But often they are disguised. It’s a difficult predicament. You know that your mood would lift if only you called someone. Am I being harsh on myself? Should I listen to my NEEDS. Even if the need is found within someone else. Is there something wrong with needing something from another person? I have been hurt so many times going down this path that I now try to only rely on myself. But sometimes you just need company. We are not islands. Someone said to me this week: “It’s like we’re always doing a dance, backwards and forwards, into the needs of others and back into our own needs”. I thought this was nice. Sometimes you need another person to be there for you. On other days you will be in a position to be there for them. Some days it is nice to sit alone and listen. Get to know yourself and develop a beautiful relationship with the person inside.

There are as many nights as days, and the one is just as long as the other in the year’s course. Even a happy life cannot be without a measure of darkness, and the word ‘happy’ would lose its meaning if it were not balanced by sadness.- Carl Jung -

This path chosen.. not because of fear – of love – commitment. But because of the circumstances…

Time – everything in our life is just about a matter of time. Waiting for the right time. Don’t rush into things and make a big leap forward just because of the emotions we’re feeling.

Being rational and knowing when to wait or do something.. that’s being responsible to oneself and the people around us. Because we don’t live alone in this world.

Being patient – to wait for the right time – is hard. But it could be the best decision ever made in your life.

File:8marta.jpg

The 1932 Soviet poster dedicated to the8th of March holiday.

The red text reads:
8th of March is the day of the rebellion of the working women against the kitchen slavery".

The grey text in lower right reads:
Say NO to the oppression and Babbittry of the household work!"

This reminds me of Sec 3-4's History lessons...Source Based Questions which made me really critical of advertisements and look at them in a different light. History taught me a lot. Anyway, it's a tradition meaningfully-rich day of global celebration for the economic, political and social achievements of women.

From Wikipedia:

Started as a political event, the holiday blended in the culture of many countries (primarily Russia and the countries of former Soviet bloc). In some celebrations, the day lost its political flavour, and became simply an occasion for men to express their love to the women around them in a way somewhat similar to Mother's Day and St Valentine's Day mixed together. In others, however, the political and human rights theme as designated by the United Nations runs strong, and political and social awareness of the struggles of women worldwide are brought out and examined in a hopeful manner.

Anyway, Since it is International Women's Day, ( I hope Siti knows that it is Today, since she's quite the feminist, haha...) TA-DA!

Supreme Court opens its doors to public with quirky mock trials

A mock criminal trial featuring suspects like the Big Bad Wolf, Little Red Riding Hood and, er, Blind Mouse Satu is one of the quirky highlights at The Living Courthouse, a public event held at the Supreme Court on March 14 and 15.

The weekend open—house event marks the first time the Supreme Court opens its doors to the public in its new premises — at 1 Supreme Court Lane — in hopes of “demystifying” the institution, said senior assistant registrar Sharon Lim.

For the 30—minute “Humpty” trial, the enactments will be performed by court staff — in full costume. There will also be a cordoned off “crime scene” within the building.

There’s also a “blog” by the hapless egg—headed victim on the event website, www.thelivingcourthouse.gov.sg.

“There are also sorts of experiences that we can’t really put a name to. The birth of a child, for one. Or the death of a parent. Falling in love. Words are like nets - we hope they’ll cover what we mean, but we know they can’t possibly hold that much joy, or grief, or wonder. Finding God is like that too. If it’s happened to you, you know what it feels like. But try to describe it to someone else - and language only takes you so far.”
